Luxacote®
Luxacote® is the patented paint system that Hunter Douglas in general uses for its' exterior products. More specific for those products that are directly exposed to sunlight (UV-radiation). The Luxacote® system is applied in a continuous coil coating process in 3 layers.
Anorcoat
The paint process starts with the degreasing and cleaning of the aluminium strip. Then the Anorcoat, a chrome-phosphate containing conversion layer, is applied in a thickness between 800 and 2000 mg/m2. The Anorcoat is a in-house development of Hunter Douglas and has two functions:
- The permanent anchoring of the paint to the metal surface
- Protect the metal surface against corrosion
Base coating
The first real layer of paint is the base coat, a polyurethane type of paint, which is applied in a thickness of 8-12 microns.
Colour coating
The second layer of paint is the pigmented coating, again a polyurethane type of paint, applied in a thickness of ca. 20 microns. Only highly colour-stable pigments are used to ensure optimal colour-fastness.
Topcoat
The transparent top coating is a fuly integrated polyamide skin that gives the Luxacote® system a highly scratch and wear resistant surface. it also provides extreem durability of the colour and gloss. The top coat has a thickness of 8-12 microns.
The right alloy
It is not enough for a well-performing product to have an excellent pre-treatment and colour stable coating. In order to reach an optimal durability level, it is important that the coating system is combined with the right substrate.
For cladding- and exterior ceiling systems Hunter Douglas utilizes highly corrosion resistant alloys like EN-AW 3005 and/or HD5050 or similar.
EN1396 and ECCA
The Luxacote® paint system in combination with the EN-AW 3005 alloy meets the highest requirements of EN1396/ EN 13523-19 (former ECCA T19) with regard to corrosion resistance and durability.
