System Description

NYSAN AEROFOILS

Aerofoils louver systems can be fixed or adjustable, allowing the angle of the louvers to be changed to provide increased levels of solar control.
Aerofoils louver systems

This type of system is more appropriate for east / south-east or west / south-west facing elevations where the sun angle is lower as compared to a southern facing one and as a result, a projecting louver system is not sufficiently effective.

The general construction of this type of system would comprise the following main elements:

  • Brackets to fix the system back to the window wall / building structure
  • Vertical posts
  • Louvers (incorporating profile cut aluminum end caps), which fix between the vertical posts. In most situations, extruded aluminum aerofoil profiles are used, primarily for their strength and aesthetic appearance, but other profiles can also be used to meet the specific requirements of a project.

In designing the system, a number of factors need to be taken into account, including:

  • The lowest sun angle against which the system should be effective
  • The size of the louver profile
  • The angle (to the horizontal) at which the louvers are to be installed.

From these it will be possible to determine the pitch of the louvers. A number of other issues will then also need to be addressed, namely:

  • The maximum potential wind and snow loads (as appropriate) which will influence the spans which can be achieved and the dimensions of the vertical posts, and
  • The wall construction, which, together with the maximum potential wind and snow loads, will determine the fixing bracket design.

AVAILABLE OPTIONS

  • Extruded aluminum aerofoil fin profiles ranging in size from 6” to 20”
  • Fabricated aerofoil fins comprising extruded leading edges and aluminum skins. Either a single or double skin can be used, the single skin version being either solid or perforated.
  • Glass louvers with a custom silk-screened frit to achieve the desired level of shading
  • Timber louvers manufactured from western red cedar or other sustainable varieties.

FIN DETAILS:

  • Aluminum extruded wing-shaped profiles
  • 6 different standard profiles from 200 to 450 mm wide
    Different standard profiles
  • Fins fixed at a chosen angle between 0 and 180 degrees in increments of 5 degrees
  • Adjustable fins with motorized operation, suitable for Building Management Systems
  • V-bracket fixtures, available in 0, 30 and 45 degrees for the 200 - 300AF
