Towards a sustainable future environment

Today, the pressure for sustainable development has increased in priority around the globe. Enviromental and ecological factors will, in future, have an equal priority in influencing new products and process development. Also Hunter Douglas, as manufacturer of building products, has enviromnetal factors to consider, such as materials, production methods, life cycle waste management and energy balances and life-cycles.

Green issues for Luxalon® aluminium products in building

Aluminium and its alloys have many advantages for building designers and users. For many reasons aluminium is an obvious choice:

  • Its built-in corrosion resistance. It can stand (as our exterior ceilings and facade), unprotected, in the open, subject to the elements
  • Aluminium has excellent formability. It can be rolled, rolformed (panels, grids), extruded, bent, pressed (tiles) in different ways and shaped into any design without negative side effects.
  • Aluminium can be surface treated in many attractive finishes including painting (panels, grids), anodising and powder coating (tiles).

Environmental Benefits of Aluminium in Building

The basis of aluminium's claim to be the most 'environmental friendly' of materials is its energy effectiveness:

  • In thermal properties; insulation in the alu-product. Aluminium prevents heat losses from a building and reducing heat loads in summer (no airco!)
  • Recycling: we uses the scrap which remains from old aluminium products to remeld and re-use again
  • Aesthetics: Aluminium does not rust and maintains its original aesthetic effect far longer than most materials

As a manufacturer of aluminium building products, Hunter Douglas (Luxalon®) is comitted to use the 'green' advantages of the basic material throughout all its products.
